First, with the support of RCINY, Mr. Claudiu Turcuș participates in the 9th Annual Conference of the Association of Adaptation Studies, organized under the theme “Adaptations and Multiplicities” at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. On September 26, Mr. Turcuș is invited to present the paper Screening the Banality of Evil. Adaptation as “Testimonial Pact” in Lajos Koltai’s Fateless, in which he discusses about the film adaptation of Central European novel through a case study.
On October 1st, RCINY and Hunter College / CUNY (City University of New York) present a joint event: the lecture Cristi Puiu and the context of Romanian New Wave Cinema by Claudiu Turcuș will be followed by the screening of Puiu’s masterpiece The Death of Mr. Lazărescu, a colloquium with the participation of two outstanding scholars – Ms. Ivone Margulies and Mr. Gustavo Mercado, both Professors at Hunter College, Film and Media Department -, and a Q & A session with students.*
A third event is scheduled on October 2nd at RCINY, Auditorium Hall. The workshop After the Past. Images of Transition in Recent Romanian Film and Literature is aimed to be a comparative reading of recent Romanian literature and cinema on the topic of transition, referring to the novels of Bogdan Suceavă, Florina Ilis and Petru Cimpoeşu or to the films of Cristi Puiu, Stere Gulea, Corneliu Porumboiu, and Florin Șerban. In the words of Turcuș, “the result will be a retrospective puzzle, an overview of allegorical and realistic representation of the Romanian transition.”
